Ways to include Sesame Seeds (Til) in your diet!

‘Sesame seeds’ aka ‘Seeds of Immortality’ is a reservoir of nutrition. India is the largest producer of sesame. The plant of sesame is cultivated annually to get edible seeds and oil. Sesame is a value-adding food that can enhance the diet with pleasing aroma and flavor. It gives enormous health benefits and physiological benefits if added to the regular diet. There are two types of sesame seeds available in the market, white sesame seeds and black  sesame seeds. 

How can we add sesame to the diet?

  • Sesame (Til) Laddoo 

Til laddoos are the primary delicacies in the Indian festival of Makar Sankranti. It is the traditional sweet balls. Til laddoos are a perfect combination of roasted ground sesame seeds with jaggery and cardamom. It is considered a health booster in the winter season. 

  • Sesame (Til) Barfi

Til Barfi is a healthy treat of Sesame seeds. Roasted sesame seeds are added to milk, cardamom, and sugar and heated till we get a dough-like thick consistency. Til Barfi can be prepared very quickly and enjoyed any time with guests.

  • Til Chutney 

Churned sesame is used as an ingredient in the dip in many countries but in India, Til Chutney is a famous dip in northern states. Roasted Sesame seeds are churned with fresh green coriander, garlic, green chili, salt, and lemon juice. This chutney goes great when paired with stuffed Parathas. 

  • Trail mix

A natural pairing of nuts, raisins, roasted sesame seeds with honey topping can make up an evening snack. This can be carried to the workplace or play area. This mix will not only satisfy your hunger between the meals, but will give you a whole lot of nourishment.       

  • Til Chikki

One of the most preferred and loved desserts during the winter season is Til chikki. It is prepared with roasted sesame seeds and melted jaggery. Thin and crunchy layers of til ckikki are mouthwatering and a great sweet to offer for all ages. 

Sesame is one of the natural foods that is nutrient rich and considered good for the immune system. If you are not using it, you don’t know what you are missing. You can try these recipes when you do not have time for an elaborate meal or dessert.
